On April 13, 2013, my daughter will be marrying the man of her dreams, her best friend. She’s spent the last year planning and organizing every fine detail, leaving no stone unturned. But just a few weeks ago she realized she overlooked one major detail… the weather.

While we were chatting on the phone seven days ago, she expressed her concerns. She paused briefly. Then she went on to say, “I asked Bo (her brother on the other side) to be in charge of providing a sunny, warm day for my wedding. I told him, that could be his gift to me.”

“So sweet, honey. You know Bo will come through for you.”

But yesterday her confidence waned when Charleston’s 10 day weather forecast was uploaded on the internet. At 9:29 a.m. I received an email from Annie. “60% chance of rain on Friday. I want to cry!!!”

My heart went out to her because I knew if Saturday’s forecast mimicked Friday’s, she would have a major melt-down.  Immediately, I replied.  “The weathermen don’t know what God knows. You need to trust.” But in my heart of hearts I knew she didn’t believe me.

At 5:00 p.m. my phone rang. It was Annie calling on her way home from work. We chatted for a few minutes, then I blurted the conversation I had with her brother in the parking lot. “So, I’m walking and talking out loud to Bo, thanking him for handling the weather from the other side when I looked down and saw a penny… a penny from heaven! And you know what a penny says, Annie? It says, ‘In God we trust.’ So you see, sweetie, everything is going to work out.”

She laughed half-heartedly and said, “Okay, Mom. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

If we decide in life never to leave no stone unturned, then we need to hold onto our vision… trust the process… and let the universe do the rest.
